ABOUT BIODYNAMIC CALENDAR
The calendar is based on the movement of the Moon around the Earth in its cycle of 27 days and in its passage through the twelve regions of the zodiac, the sidereal rhythm. During this process this celestial body transmits cosmic forces to the Earth and to the different beings that inhabit it. In each of these days plants receive cosmic stimulations which affect their different organs (roots, leaves, flowers and fruits) and which manifest beneficial effects upon them.
In the monthly presentation the effects are represented by the corresponding symbols, as well as the time of the beginning of the influence. We can also observe the Moon phases and the periods of ascending or descending Moon. Unfavorable times are marked thus (---).
Opening daily the agenda we have the position of the Sun in the zodiac and the details of astronomic events. Here we can make notes of agricultural activities for writing reports.
a) Days and hours with effect on the root - element Earth
That means sowing, transplanting and cultivation of vegetables whose production occurs in the soil forming comestible roots and tubercles, such as beetroot, carrot, potato, onion etc, are enhanced (this phenomenon depends on the group of constellations linked to the element earth, namely Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
b) Days and hours with effect on leaves and stems- element Water.
We recommend sowing, transplanting and cultivating plants from which the intention is to use leaves and stems, namely colewort, salads, spinach, chicory, parsley, green onions, sugarcane and pasture. Leaf days are related to the group of constellations connected to the element water Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio.
c) Days and hours with effect on flowers – element Light
We recommend sowing, transplanting, cultivating and harvesting plants appointed to production of ornamental flowers or those used for medicinal purposes. This occurrence is related to the group of air constellations Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
d) Days and hours with effect on the fruit - element Warmth.
They are appropriate for sowing, transplanting and cultivating plants that produce fruits and seeds, including tomato, cucumber, pumpkin, beans and corn. These days are related to the constellations of the fire group, Aries , Leo and Sagittarius.
ASCENDING MOON AND DESCENDING MOON
a) Ascending Moon -
When the Moon is located in the lowest point of its orbit, in front of the constellation of Gemini, it starts to become ascending. It describes every day a longer bow in the sky. Its points of rising move towards southeast, and its points of setting towards southwest. It should not be confounded with the phase of Waxing Moon. During Ascending Moon juice formation in plants increases. The plant is full of juices and forces in the upper parts. This period is favorable for grafting, so this effect is enhanced by working with fruit plants in this period. In case of plants with flowers one should take advantage of corresponding flower days.
b) Descending Moon
When the Moon reaches the highest point in its monthly orbit, in front of Sagittarius, it becomes descending. The bows become everyday lower, the points of rising move towards northeast, and the points of setting towards northwest. For sowing, transplanting and tree planting, ornamental plants and hedges we choosen the period of descending Moon, which should not be confounded with the phase of Waning Moon. During planting time plants form roots and are quickly connected to the new spot. We can increase this impulse for each type of plant if, from the planting times on, we choose the corresponding leaf days for leaf plants and root days for tubercles, doing the same way for fruit and flower producing plants.
